the host format

On reading David Foster Wallace's "The Host"

I found this short story pretty challenging to read, i felt like i was bouncing all over the place, and by the time i was done reading the box, i had forgotten what the previous paragraph was all about. It did not interest me at all, probably because of all the political references and jokes that i had no clue what they were talking about. I guess if you enjoy reading things like that it would be a great peice, it was well written and semi- commical if you fully understood all the inuendos.

AH BARTLEBY!

For those of you who have ever read Melville's Bartleby the Scrivener-

This story for me was fun to read, its kind of haunting actually.. and really leaves you hanging want more, or wanting closure. The reading was to me almost romantic in a sence as far as the language used to write in , how peoples attention to detail seems to be so much greater then they ae now. Nowadays people walk around and notice nothing, or care to not notice. I thought the way he decribes things around him, he really apreaciates everything he has including his employees. I also get the feeling that on the surface he is kind of a selfish man, but only beacuse thats the way society back then has molded him. Men in charge taking care of everything, being bread winners... it would be way to complicated to even completely compare the story to modern times and do it correctly.
